Sam Giancana started out as a wheelman for Al Capone and worked his way to the top of Chicago's illegal gambling operations. He had many ties with politicians, including the Kennedys, and was called to testify regarding Mafia involvement in a CIA plot to assassinate Castro. Giancana himself was killed in his own home before giving testimony.
Fun Fact
The House Committee on Assassinations did an exhaustive look the President John F. Kennedy assassination and they concluded not only did Oswald not act alone, but that all the evidence indicated that there was a conspiracy, and that, in all probability, Carlos Marcello, Santo Trafficante and Sam Giancana – the three big mob bosses that Bobby was aggressively prosecuting, had the motive, means and opportunity (to use the phrase of the House Select Committee) to have committed the crime.
The findings surprised exactly no one.
