Lew Ayres was an American actor best known for as role as German soldier Paul Bäumer in the film All Quiet on the Western Front (1930) and for playing Dr. Kildare in nine movies. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in Johnny Belinda (1948). Lew's successful film and movie career film and television career spanned 65 years.

As you drive into the park continue straight ahead, turn left and park near the office or chapel. Now walk back to the original road before you turned left and half-way up, and twenty feet into Section D (that’s the open lawn area) you will find the simple memorial for Lew Ayres.
The Lew Ayres memorial is also how you find the unmarked grave of musician and composer Frank Zappa. Frank and his wife rest just to the right of Lew.
