Mary Surratt was American boarding house owner in Washington, D.C., in 1865 who was convicted of taking part in the conspiracy to assassinate U.S. President Abraham Lincoln. Sentenced to death, she was hanged and became the first woman executed by the US federal government. She maintained her innocence until her death, and the case against her was and is controversial.

When entering at the southeast main entrance off of Bladensburg take the first right onto St. Matthews Ave. Continue on St. Matthews Ave. heading northwest towards section 12 until reaching the intersection between Section 3, Section 12, and Section 14. Stay right to continue north for about 260 feet. After the small curve in the road, Mary Surratt’s grave will be on your right very close to the street.
