Crime and their Victims
Tony Costa (1944 – 1974), sometimes referred to as the Cape Cod Vampire or the Cape Cod Cannibal, was an American serial killer who was active in and around the town of Truro, Massachusetts, during 1968–1969. The dismembered remains of four women were found in or near a forest clearing where Costa grew marijuana. Like the serial killers before him, Tony Costa was debonair, cunning and—to his detriment—overconfident. But Costa remains a relatively unknown true-crime figure despite the heinous nature of his crimes against women, murders that included dismemberment and necrophilia. Costa, nicknamed the "Cape Cod Vampire" and "Cape Cod Cannibal," was serving a life sentence for fatally killing and dismembering Patricia Walsh and Mary Anne Wysocki (whose bodies were found in pieces, mutilated) when he killed himself in 1974. Though he had been convicted of the two murders, according to investigators and his defense team, he was suspected of brutally killing as many as six other women.

The rest of the story …

In the end, Tony was found to be completely sane (if not deeply disturbed) and was very proud of what he had accomplished.

You will notice the lack of crime scene photos. The Truro and Provincetown police departments have deemed that photos are too extreme and will remain hidden from any public viewing.

The family of Tony Costa include an ex-wife, three children, great-grandchildren and others and they all live in and around Truro. They have refused all interviews for over 40 years.

Tony Costa briefly stayed in Room 4 at 5 Standish Street. The building was formerly known as “The Guest House”. Today, the 1850 building is called the Victoria House. In 1969, Costa lived here before his arrest for the infamous Cape Cod murders. Police found personal belongings of his victims inside his room at this address.

The victims include Susan Perry (thought to be his second victim and found 5 months later), Sydney Monzon (his first victim), Patricia H. Walsh and Mary Anne Wysocki (the two victims he was found guilty of murder). Never charged but 90% sure that he murdered Bonnie Williams, Diane Federoff, Barbara Spaulding and Christine Gallant.
