Jackie Wilson
The Last Concert …
On September 29, 1975, Jackie Wilson suffered a massive heart attack while playing at Dick Clark’s Good Ol’ Rock and Roll Revue, hosted by the Latin Casino in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. He was singing his hit “Lonely Teardrops” and was stricken just after the line “My heart is crying, crying”, falling head-first to the stage. Wilson became comatose and was taken to Cherry Hill Hospital where medical personnel worked to stabilize Wilson’s vital signs, but the lack of oxygen to his brain caused Wilson to slip into a coma. He briefly recovered in early 1976, and was even able to take a few wobbly steps, but Wilson eventually slipped back into a semi-comatose state. He lived in a nursing home until his death at age 49.
