Ticky Holgado
Fun Fact
Joseph Holgado grew up in a respectable middle-class family but shocked his surgeon father and librarian mother when he abandoned his studies at the age of 16. Bitten by the rock’n’roll bug, he learned to play the guitar and fancied himself as France’s answer to the American teen idol Ricky Nelson. A great admirer of James Dean, Holgado jumped on the twist bandwagon and toyed with the Ricky James pseudonym but he lost before his first concert. “Before going on stage at the casino in Arcachon, I told the announcer my name was Ricky Holgado but he got it wrong and introduced me as Ticky Holgado. I thought I’d better keep that name in case it was a lucky charm,” he told Le Parisien newspaper in 1996.
