Les Amoureux was painted, and sold, in 1928, and has been with the same family for the last nine decades. In 2017 Les Amoureux sold to a Russian bidder for $28.5 million, becoming the top lot of the auction and the highest price paid for a Chagall work.

As you enter the cemetery from the south-most corner off Chemin de Nice, look for the chapel on the first plateau. Facing the chapel turn around and walk towards the end of the first section. Turn left and walk to the wall that borders the cemetery and one row in from the wall look for the final resting place of legendary French artist Marc Chagall. There is also a stone map at the entry gate showing the precise location.
