Paul Robeson was an American actor, singer, and activist. Some of his best know work on stage included The Emperor Jones, All God's Chillun Got Wings, and Othello. Robeson best known movies include Show Boat (1936), Sanders of the River (1935), and The Proud Valley (1940). He became active in the Civil Rights Movement and other social justice campaigns. His sympathies for the Soviet Union and for communism, and his criticism of the United States government and its foreign policies, caused him to be blacklisted during the McCarthy era.

Grave Location Description
After entering the entrance between Cherrywood and Maplewood, turn left at the first intersection. Continue straight (west) at the next intersection, and turn right at the following intersection to go north. Drive past the Knollwood Cremation Garden and turn left. Park your car along the street after making the left turn and Hillcrest Section H will be on your left. From the street, head south into Section H for about 170 feet to the very south edge of the section. Paul Robeson is located on the far south edge and slightly the east side of the section.
Or you can park your car behind the Rosewood Mausoleum and facing the Rosewood Cremation Garden (with your back to the mausoleum, take the path on the far left of the garden and Paul Robeson’s final resting place is on the right, across from the bench.
