William Desmond Taylor began his career in Hollywood as a stage actor, engineer, antiques dealer and occasional gold miner. He entered silent film industry as actor in 1912 where Taylor acted in 27 silent films between 1912 and 1915 and directed 59 between 1914 and 1922. He was a highly respect director for American Film, Favorite Players, Pallas, Morosco, Fox, Famous Players-Lasky, Select, Realart, Paramount. Taylor served as president of the Motion Picture Directors' Association for three terms, however it was Taylor's unsolved murder in 1922 in his Hollywood bungalow that has remained a scandal to this day.
