The main source of inspiration for Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson, Son House was a major innovator of the Delta blues style, along with his playing partners Charley Patton and Willie Brown. Few listening experiences in the blues are as intense as hearing one of Son House's original 1930s recordings for the Paramount label. Entombed in a hailstorm of surface noise and scratches, one can still be awestruck by the emotional fervor House puts into his singing and slide guitar playing.
Fun Fact
Son House, the influential Delta blues musician, lived at 61 Greig Street in Rochester, New York, in the Corn Hill neighborhood during the 1960s. It was at this apartment building that blues enthusiasts rediscovered him in 1964, leading to his musical comeback. The Grieg Street home was a key location in his later life before his death in 1988.
